Three Animation Films
Animation Documentary
Animation mostly started as low budget fun more than a product that would make money. A lot of animators work in animation because they enjoy it, since not many people want to invest the time and effort that goes into moving a clay model a thousand times in order to create 20 seconds of film in a day. The way animation in the UK is now is a weird mix of Disney style animations, combined with stop motion films and clay models which created an odd genre influenced a lot by british comedy and budget solutions. Thanks to the wide range of inspirations and influencers, there isn’t one single type of UK animation that’s seen as better than the others. It’s just a melting pot of hand drawn, clay models, technicolour, random objects ‘moving’ frame by frame, CGI, and countless other ideas that have leaked into the medium. Animation has become prominent enough around the world thanks to companies like Aardman with their plasticine models and Disney with their hand drawn films that even massive franchises like Harry Potter have included animated sections, such as the Three Brothers scene created, which was inspired by the work of Lotte Reiniger. With new animation being worked on day by day, and new equipment and techniques becoming more available, the animation industry has a unique aesthetic that manages to seem old but also new and interesting. It’s a medium that can continue to evolve and change over time whilst still retaining it’s own style and influences in it’s work
